A savage. A force. An entrepreneur. Sydney Tucker is the founder and CEO of Damsel in Distress Clothing, LLC.
Sydney launched the line back in 2016— her senior year at the University of Michigan. As a budding entrepreneur and now recent college graduate, Sydney reached a critical decision: determining how to spend her 24 hours of the day.
While starting a business is worthwhile, many expenses are required for innovation and scaling. Sydney has grandiose visions of the brand’s future, but they require significant investments. She reached a point where she realized that for the sake of her dreams, she needed to work a 9-5 job to help fund the operation.
Many dreamers have entrepreneurial ideas, so the idea of working a 9-5 is daunting, as it takes away so much time that could be spent working towards your visions. The reality is, however, that as 20-somethings or just adults period, we have to have steady income in order to cover our bills, let alone our business expenses.
The beauty that Sydney found, however, is that 9-5 jobs and entrepreneurship are not mutually exclusive. After months of job searching, she secured her first post-grad, full-time job. She feels elated to not only get to work a job enhancing her business acumen, but also to finally feel that she will be fully empowered to paint her dream visions right into reality. Yes, the duality of working full-time and running a business requires pristine time-management. But who’s the happiest dreamer? A dreamer with the resources to make shit happen. Watch Sydney glow all 2018 and beyond!
